Step By Step Surveying Guide

Please use this step by step surveying guide to understand how to complete the surveying sheets.

We also have available a downloadable version of these instructions including clearer images if required, which will be available soon.

We also can offer an in house training session.Click here to be contacted regarding an in house training session.

1

Complete your contact and the survey property’s details at head of the survey sheet. Click on the thumbnail image to the right to see the completed stage.

2

Place a survey sheet on the pyramid liner and sketch the general footprint of the property. You will find that the liner should enable you to create a clear and precise diagram of the survey property without the use of a ruler. The Pyramid Liner is a valuable tool when surveying, as you tend to run out of hands rather quickly!
Make your outline as large as possible in order to leave yourself as much room as possible for filling in the detail of the plan. Please make a note of the general external wall thickness.

3

Draw in the internal partitions. Do not worry about wall thicknesses, we will be able to adjust the plan accordingly to suit.

4

Mark-up all window and door openings, along with any details such as stairs, chimneys breasts, sanitary ware and kitchen layouts using the key in the left hand column of the survey sheet. If you require any furniture layouts overlaid to give an impression of the space available to potential clients please note these on your survey drawing. We will drop-in furniture of standard dimensions to match your layout.

5

Please label each room numerically, in the ‘Room Schedule’ section of the survey sheet give a name to each room and their overall dimensions. It is important that any alcoves or irregularities to the shape of a room are dimensioned clearly on the plan. In the example shown the corridor (room 6) is an irregular shape and has been dimensioned on plan.

6

Now ‘locate’ all the window and door positions by labelling the dimension of the edge of an opening to the nearest wall.

7

Please label the width of any windows on the plan. There is no need to provide the width of any doors, we will drop-in standard door sizes to fit unless you indicate non standard sizes.

8

You're done, now fax your completed sheets (remember one for each floor) to us on 01243 574869 and we will do the rest. Click on the thumbnail to see completed plan produced form the training survey.

Please help us to help you and remember; The better the survey the better the plan.
